Saturday is the big day at Churchill Downs, but don’t sleep on Friday. That’s when Kentucky Derby weekend kicks off in earnest with the Kentucky Oaks.
The 3-year-old thoroughbred fillies will be out in force for the annual race first run in 1875 and carrying a $1 million purse.
Of course, the Oaks isn’t the only race scheduled for Friday. In all, there are 12 races beginning at 10:30 a.m. ET. Coverage begins on NBC Sports Network at noon and also can be seen online.
