Report: Ryan Fitzpatrick Could Take Less Money Elsewhere To Spite Jets

The New York Jets really might be stuck with Geno Smith, Christian Hackenberg and Bryce Petty as their quarterbacks in 2016.

Ryan Fitzpatrick, the Jets’ 2015 starter, still remains unsigned, and there appears to be some growing bitterness between the two parties. Fitzpatrick has an offer on the table worth $24 million over three years with $12 million in 2016, up to another $12 million in incentives and $15 million guaranteed, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday.

Fitzpatrick could be willing to take a lesser deal from another team “on principle” because of the lowball offer, the New York Daily News’ Manish Mehta reported Tuesday.

Jets receivers Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall sat out of organized team activities last week reportedly in protest of the Jets’ failure to re-sign Fitzpatrick.

Fitzpatrick, 33, threw for 3,905 yards with a franchise single-season record 31 touchdowns in 16 starts last season. He led the Jets to a 10-6 record with an 88 passer rating with 15 interceptions.

Last season was Fitzpatrick’s most productive as a starting quarterback, and he gives the Jets the best chance to win in 2016. It’s understandable, however, given Fitzpatrick’s journeyman past, that the Jets don’t want to give him top-end money for a starting quarterback.
