It appears Tim Lincecum is headed to Southern California.
The free-agent pitcher is close to finalizing a deal with the Los Angeles Angels, Yahoo! Sports’ Jeff Passan reported Monday, citing sources. Lincecum, who spent the first nine seasons of his career in San Francisco, reportedly chose the Angels over the Giants and Chicago White Sox.
The move makes sense for the 31-year-old right-hander, as MLB Network’s Jon Heyman reported Lincecum wanted to be in a major league rotation. The Angels currently have three starters on their disabled list.
Lincecum is a two-time National League Cy Young Award winner, a three-time NL strikeouts leader, a four-time All-Star and a three-time World Series champion, and he threw two no-hitters for the Giants. However, he seemed to be on a downward spiral starting with the 2012 season, and when things began to look up in 2015, he ended up missing the second half of the season with a degenerative hip injury.
There are no reported terms of Lincecum’s deals with the Angels.
