Daily Fantasy Golf Picks For U.S. Open: Jason Day, Matt Kuchar Lead Way

The toughest test in golf heads to one of the most challenging courses in the world.

The 2016 U.S. Open is scheduled to get underway this Thursday at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Penn. This will be the first U.S. Open at Oakmont since 2007, when Angel Cabrera won with a 5-over-par 285(!).

This year’s field features some of the bright stars from today, as well as experienced professionals who know Oakmont best.

So without further ado, let’s take a look at the five golfers we recommend starting in your daily fantasy lineups.

Jason Day
There’s no doubt Day is the best golfer in the world right now, so how could we not recommend picking him for your fantasy team? Sure, Day has never won the U.S. Open, and Oakmont is quite the test for anyone, let alone the No. 1 golfer in the world. But Day has finished in the top 25 in nine of his 11 appearances this year, and he has three wins, including The Players Championship.

Dustin Johnson
Hear us out. Yes, Johnson has the unfortunate history of choking at majors, including perhaps his most brutal one of all at last year’s U.S. Open. But you usually can count on Johnson being in contention, and he’s made the cut in all of his 13 appearances this season. So he might choke away another win, but he likely will do wonders for your fantasy lineup in the meantime.

Jordan Spieth
The good has been really good for Spieth in 2015, with wins at the Dean & DeLuca Invitational and Hyundai Tournament of Champions. But there’s been plenty of bad, too. Spieth suffered a memorable collapse during the final round of the Masters, and he has been incredibly streaky since. The defending U.S. Open champion has missed a cut, finished in ties for 18th and 57th and won the Dean & DeLuca Invitational since Augusta. But he’s still made the cut in 11 of his 13 appearances this season.

Matt Kuchar
Kuchar is the hottest golfer on the PGA Tour right now. He still hasn’t won a tournament this year, but he’s finished in the top 10 in five of his last six tournaments. He also has finished in the top 30 in each of his last six U.S. Opens, so expect similar success to continue at Oakmont.

Jim Furyk
Don’t count out the 46-year-old former champion just yet. Sure, Furyk has only played in four events this season after suffering a wrist injury, but he has one thing many of the other top golfers at this year’s U.S. Open don’t have — experience. Oakmont is one of the toughest courses on the planet, and Furyk finished in a tie for second when the U.S. Open was there in 2007.
