Sports and politics usually don’t mix, and most of the time, that’s a good thing. But Donald Trump is trying his best to change that.
The Republican Party’s presumptive nominee for president spoke Friday at a rally in Richmond, Va., and revealed his hopes to have high-profile athletes address the crowd during the Republican National Convention in late July.
Trump spoke of bringing “great sports people” and “winners” on stage at the convention and proceeded to list off prominent sports figures he hopes to call on, including UFC president Dana White, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger — and New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.
Brady has admitted to being a “good friend” of Trump, something the politician has promoted aggressively throughout his presidential campaign. The four-time Super Bowl champion hasn’t said whether he’ll officially support Trump for president or take him up on his offer, but Roethlisberger wasted no time in responding to Trump’s plea, via Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Brady likely will be gearing up for training camp when the GOP convention is held in Cleveland from July 18 to 21 and also has a four-game suspension looming over his head, so we doubt he’ll be joining Trump on the political stage.
