The former Indianapolis Colts running back had a duffel bag with two guns in it, Roseville police told FOX 2 Detroit, and one accidentally went off and hit him in the stomach when he went to remove the bag from his trunk at Mike Riehl’s Roseville Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram.

Police told FOX 2 that Tipton, who has since been identified by the medical examiner, was responsive and talking after being shot, but he died at some point after.

Tipton went to Central Michigan University and played two seasons with the Colts. He scored Indy’s only touchdown in its 45-7 loss to the New England Patriots in the 2014 AFC Championship Game.
