After a two-year hiatus, college hockey is returning to the home of the Boston Red Sox.
Frozen Fenway 2017, which was announced Wednesday, will feature two Hockey East games on Saturday, Jan. 7, and another two on Saturday, Jan. 14.

“Outdoor hockey is quickly becoming a staple on Boston’s winter sports calendar,” Red Sox president Sam Kennedy said in a statement, “and we look forward to joining with Hockey East and the city of Boston to build on that tradition by bringing some of the most accomplished and talented collegiate teams in the country to compete on the ice at Fenway Park.”
This will be the third installment of Frozen Fenway, which debuted in 2010 in conjunction with the Boston Bruins’ first appearance in the NHL Winter Classic. That inaugural showcase featured two outdoor collegiate games (one men’s and one women’s).
The slate of college games grew to six at Frozen Fenway 2012 and to eight when the event returned again in 2014.
The 2017 schedule will feature the first Frozen Fenway game involving UConn, which joined Hockey East in 2014. The Huskies are the only team in the conference that has yet to play a game outdoors.
“Hockey East and our schools could not be more excited to take the ice once again at Fenway Park,” Hockey East commissioner Joe Bertagna said in a statement. “Once Frozen Fenway 2017 is complete, all 12 Hockey East schools will have played an outdoor game at Fenway Park, creating once-in-a-lifetime memories for the players, students, alumni and fans.”
Ticketing information and game times will be announced at a later date.
