While we wouldn’t advise anyone to hit the streets looking for a fight, we admittedly would be remiss if we didn’t do something special to honor Kimbo Slice, who died Monday at age 42.
Slice, whose real name was Kevin Ferguson, became famous for his Internet street fights well before he joined the world of organized combat sports. So in the wake of Slice’s sudden death, we thought it’d be fitting to pinpoint which current professional athletes we’d like to see throw down in a 1-on-1, no-holds-barred brawl.
For the purposes of this exercise, we eliminated boxers and mixed martial artists for obvious reasons. We also ruled out hockey players because fighting, after all, is part of their sport, thus allowing for an inside look at what they might actually bring to the table.
Everyone else was fair game, and the 10 athletes we chose made the list based on very sporadic logic. Some made the list for their tough guy personas, while others made it solely because the sight of them fighting would be absolutely hilarious.
So, here’s to you, Kimbo. Hopefully you enjoy, big guy.
