J.J. Watt Meets Mexico Soccer Team At Copa America, Makes Chicharito’s Summer

Football recently met futbol in a big way, as probably could only happen in Houston.

J.J. Watt on Sunday visited Mexico’s national soccer team, which was practicing at the Houston Texans’ facilities ahead of its Copa America 2016 game against Venezuela. The Texans’ media team was on hand to document Watt’s drop-in, and the reception “El Tri’s” players and staff gave the Houston defensive end demonstrates the NFL’s enduring popularity in Mexico.

To see Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez’s delight at meeting Watt is truly heartwarming. “Chicharito” is perhaps the biggest name in North American soccer, and his reputation extends from Mexico to England, Spain and Germany, where he currently plays for Bayer Leverkusen.

Yet the 28-year-old Mexico striker became like a big kid all over again upon meeting Watt, the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2012, 2014 and 2015.

Watt also seemed excited about his visit.
