NBA Rumors: DeMar DeRozan Opts Out Of Raptors Contract To Become Free Agent

Toronto Raptors guard DeMar DeRozan reportedly has opted out of his contract and will become an unrestricted free agent in July.

Chris Haynes of Cleveland.com reported the news.

Much of the speculation surrounding DeRozan involves him and the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers are DeRozan’s hometown team, and he played at the University of Southern California before the Raptors drafted him ninth overall in 2009.

DeRozan averaged 23.5 points per game during the regular season, which marked a career high. His playoff performance for the Raptors this spring was subpar, though. He averaged 20.9 points per game, which isn’t bad, but he shot just 39.4 percent from the field and an abysmal 15.4 percent from 3-point land.

Still, as one of the better unrestricted free agents for teams to pursue, DeRozan should receive plenty of interest. After all, the salary cap is going way up this summer. Almost every team has a bunch of cap room.
