Torey Krug Ready To ‘Pour My Heart Out’ After Bruins Contract Extension

Shortly after signing a four-year, $21 million contract extension with the Boston Bruins on Thursday, defenseman Torey Krug hit Twitter to thank his supporters and promise to put forth a determined effort over the length of his new deal.

Krug was set to become a restricted free agent when the market opens at noon ET Friday. He played out last season on a one-year, $3.4 million contract, set a career high with 40 assists and ranked second on the Bruins behind Zdeno Chara in time on ice per game (21:37).

Krug and Chara both will be back next season, but Boston’s defensive corps as a whole likely will look significantly different.

The Bruins have just four defensemen under contract after reportedly buying out Dennis Seidenberg on Thursday, and given how mightily the unit struggled for much of last season, improving the blue line will be of paramount importance this summer for Don Sweeney and Co.
