The Boston Red Sox are about to have a much-needed reinforcement in left field and on the bench.

The Red Sox announced Friday they had activated infielder/outfielder Brock Holt from the 15-day disabled list, where he has been since suffering a concussion in May. Boston optioned infielder Mike Miller to Triple-A Pawtucket to make roster room for Holt.

Holt primarily played in left field for the Red Sox before heading to the DL on May 20 (retroactive to May 19). The 28-year-old appeared in eight rehab games with the PawSox, posting a .320 batting average with two runs, two doubles and five walks.

The former All-Star was batting .239 with three home runs and 19 RBIs before suffering the concussion. The Red Sox host the Los Angeles Angels at Fenway Park on Friday night.
