David Ortiz Singles, Breaks Bat Over His Knee Anyway In Red Sox’s Loss

When you’re a power hitter of David Ortiz’s stature, sometimes singles don’t satisfy.

Ortiz smacked a base hit into center field during the ninth inning of Tuesday’s Boston Red Sox-Texas Rangers game and, clearly frustrated that he’d been unable to put more of a charge into the ball, snapped his bat over his knee as he trotted to first base.

The single capped an overall frustrating night for the Red Sox slugger, who went 1-for-5 and left five men on base in a 7-2 loss at Fenway Park.

And the fact that it came minutes after closer Craig Kimbrel had imploded in the top of the ninth — giving up four runs and failing to record an out to turn a tight ballgame into a Rangers rout — certainly didn’t help matters.
