Dustin Pedroia Loses All-Star Game Final Vote To Jays’ Michael Saunders

The Boston Red Sox are going to have to settle for six All-Stars.

Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia was among four players beaten for the Midsummer Classic’s final roster spot after Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Michael Saunders won the vote.

Saunders is batting .298 this season entering Friday’s action with 16 home runs and 48 RBIs. Pedroia is batting .305 with eight home runs and 35 RBIs.

The other American League candidates were Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria, Detroit Tigers second baseman Ian Kinsler and Houston Astros outfielder George Springer.

San Francisco Giants first baseman Brandon Belt, who the Red Sox had formed a partnership with, won the NL’s Final Vote over Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story, Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun, Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Jake Lamb, and Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Starling Marte.
