France’s enemies are targeting its people at home and abroad. While this comes as no surprise, the location around which one attack plot centered will dismay sports fans worldwide.

Security services have disrupted a plan to attack France’s delegation at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, The Telegraph’s Donna Bowater reported Friday.

The leader of France’s military intelligence revealed in a report into the Paris terror attacks in November that a Brazilian Islamist militant had targeted France’s Olympic team. But partners tipped off the French, and the plot was thwarted.

That’s all we know about the plot. The same applies to Brazil’s security agencies.

“We were not the source of information and the Brazilian intelligence agency (Abin) was not officially informed either of this matter,” a spokesman for Brazil’s institutional security cabinet said, per Bowater.

Brazil will deploy more than 85,000 security personnel next month for the Olympics.

France and other countries likely will add members of their own security services to ensure the safety of athletes, their families and fans.
