Joey Votto’s heel turn continued Wednesday night at AT&T Park.
The Cincinnati Reds first baseman has messed with fans a few times this season, earning himself a reputation as one of Major League Baseball’s biggest villains. He apparently added to that reputation during the finale of the Reds’ three-game series against the San Francisco Giants by refusing to give in to one kid’s demands.
Votto probably was being playful. And hey, just because a kid asks for something doesn’t mean a player is obligated to fork it over. But this incident probably won’t do Votto any favors in the court of public opinion.
Then again, he probably doesn’t care.
