NBA Rumors: Rajon Rondo, Jimmy Butler Trying To Recruit Dwyane Wade To Bulls

Rajon Rondo didn’t have the greatest relationship with Dwyane Wade during his time with the Boston Celtics, but he apparently is willing to let bygones be bygones in an effort to convince Wade to sign with Rondo’s new team, the Chicago Bulls.

Rondo, who over the weekend agreed to a reported two-year contract with the Bulls, and Bulls star Jimmy Butler have been attempting to woo the free-agent guard to Chicago, Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders reported Wednesday.

The beef between Rondo and Wade dates back to the 2011 NBA playoffs — the tail end of the Celtics’ Big Three era coinciding with the rise of the Miami Heat’s — when Wade dislocated Rondo’s elbow during a tie-up in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.

The two were involved in another altercation in the 2012-13 season opener, with Rondo picking up a flagrant foul for grabbing Wade by the neck in the game’s final minute.

Wade called it a “punk play.” Rondo responded by referencing the “dirty plays” Wade had been responsible for in the past.

Man, that Celtics-Heat rivalry was fun.

Rondo evidently has moved on, though, and now is looking to join forces with his longtime foil. And while Wade isn’t the player he once was, the Bulls could use all the help they can get after missing the playoffs for the first time since 2008.
