NFL Sneaks In LeSean McCoy Discipline News Amid Deflategate Hysteria

Whether intentional or not, the NFL managed to sneak in some other important AFC East news Wednesday without much attention.

Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy won’t face any discipline for his role in a February nightclub fight, an NFL spokesman told multiple reporters, including Buffalo News NFL writer and SiriusXM NFL Radio host Vic Carucci.

This development, of course, is overshadowed by Wednesday’s other news — the U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals denying a petition by New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady to have his four-game Deflategate suspension reheard en banc — but it’s certainly notable, especially for those who believe the NFL might be trying to sweep its McCoy decision under the rug amid the Deflategate hysteria.

McCoy allegedly was involved in an altercation with three off-duty police officers at a Philadelphia bar in early February. No charges were pressed, and the Pennsylvania attorney general decided last week to close the investigation, but NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport said at the time of the incident the Bills were preparing for life without McCoy for at least a few games, so some form of discipline seemed like a legitimate possibility.

Nevertheless, the Bills are expected to have McCoy for Week 1 — and their Week 4 showdown with the Patriots — while New England could be without Brady for each of its first four games.
