Craig Kimbrel will have some more company on the Boston Red Sox’s disabled list.

The Red Sox placed relief pitcher Koji Uehara on the 15-day DL with a right pectoral strain before Wednesday’s game against the San Francisco Giants at Fenway Park. Boston recalled right-handed reliever Noe Ramirez to take his place.

Uehara appeared to suffer the injury in the ninth inning of Tuesday night’s win. The 41-year-old right-hander winced in pain after throwing a one-out pitch to Buster Posey and wound up exiting the game.

Uehara’s injury comes at a pretty bad time for the Red Sox, who lost Kimbrel to a torn left meniscus in early July and aren’t expected to get their All-Star closer back until early August at the earliest. Uehara had been serving as Boston’s interim closer after Kimbrel went down and had notched four consecutive saves entering Tuesday.

Fortunately for the Red Sox, they have another pitcher on their roster with closing experience, as submariner Brad Ziegler saved 18 games for the Arizona Diamondbacks before joining Boston on July 9.
