BOSTON — The Red Sox opened up their homestand with a 4-0 win over the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday night.

Let’s take a look at how it all went down.

GAME IN A WORD
Execution.

Jake Peavy only gave up three hits through six innings of work against his former Red Sox team, but two of those hits left the yard for four runs.

Rick Porcello, on the other hand, gave up four hits but allowed zero runs. His bullpen backed him up for the final 2 2/3 innings for the win.

IT WAS OVER WHEN …
Porcello said it was over.

The Boston Red Sox pitcher gave up two singles to open the game, but fanned the heart of the Giants’ order to get out of a first-inning jam. It was fairly smooth sailing from there.

ON THE BUMP
— Porcello, as mentioned, was pretty darn good. He didn’t do anything spectacular, but he got the job done, thanks in part to some nice defense that included two double plays. (Including this beauty from Jackie Bradley Jr.)

His final line: 6 1/3 innings pitched, zero earned runs, four hits, two walks and three strikeouts on 108 pitches (70 strikes).

He’s really turned things around this season, and becomes the first pitcher to start a season 9-0 at Fenway since Hall of Famer Dennis Eckersley in 1978.

— Porcello hit his final batter, but Robbie Ross Jr. relieved him and promptly got a double play to end the inning.

— Brad Ziegler allowed a hit in a scoreless eighth inning.

— Koji Uehara came on two finish things off in the ninth and struck out the first and only batter he faced before leaving with an apparent injury.

— Tommy Layne relieved Uehara and made quick work of two batters to end the game.

IN THE BATTER’S BOX
— It’s David Ortiz’s world. We’re all just living in it.

Big Papi launched his 23rd home run of the season, a 442-foot three-run blast off former teammate Jake Peavy, who was horrified by what he’d just done.

— Brock Holt hit a home run on Pet Brock night. Seriously.

— Hanley Ramirez and Xander Bogaerts gathered the only two other hits for Boston.

UP NEXT
The Red Sox and Giants close out their season series with Game 2 at Fenway Park. Matt Cain takes the mound for San Francisco, while lefty Drew Pomeranz makes his Red Sox debut against his former division rival. First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. ET.
