Travis Shaw left Wednesday night’s Boston Red Sox-Texas Rangers game after fouling a ball off his left foot, but the third baseman appears to have avoided serious injury.

The Red Sox announced Thursday that X-rays on Shaw’s foot had come back negative. He is day to day with a contusion, per the team.

Shaw has posted a .336/.465/.801 slash line with nine home runs and 48 RBIs this season and has appeared in 83 of Boston’s 84 games. Only right fielder Mookie Betts, who’s yet to miss a contest, has played in more.

The Red Sox are off Thursday after beating the Rangers 11-6 in Wednesday’s series finale Fenway Park. If Shaw is unable to go Friday, expect either Marco Hernandez or Brock Holt to start at third as the Sox begin a three-game set with the Tampa Bay Rays that will take them up to the All-Star break.
