The 2016 International Champions Cup will begin Friday in Shanghai with Manchester United taking on Borussia Dortmund.
The exhibition game marks Jose Mourinho’s first high-profile test as Manchester United’s manager and the Red Devils’ second outing of the preseason. Mourinho hopes to improve on last season’s fifth-place finish in the Premier League, while Dortmund should be content to match last season’s second-place finish in the Bundesliga (German first division). The teams’ 2016-17 stories will end in May, but the hard work already is underway.
Some familiarity exists between the teams, as Manchester United’s Adnan Januzaj and Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Dortmund’s Shinji Kagawa have represented both clubs in recent years.
