It appears Joe Girardi finally listened to the Fenway Park crowd.

One night after showering the New York Yankees manager with a chorus of “We want A-Rod!” chants, Girardi obliged, inserting Alex Rodriguez into Wednesday’s game against the Boston Red Sox as a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning.

A-Rod, of course, is playing his final series in Boston before his Yankees career ends Friday, and Wednesday’s cameo ensured Red Sox fans would get at least one more chance to let the longtime villain know how they feel about him.

And the Fenway Faithful did just that.

It was a pretty surreal moment, as the sellout crowd rained boos on the Yankees slugger while also taking cell phone recordings of what likely is one of A-Rod’s last appearances on a big league diamond.

Much to the delight of the crowd, Rodriguez couldn’t deliver in the big spot, flying out to right field with two runners on base. But his teammates certainly picked him up, scoring eight runs between the seventh and eighth innings to surge to a 9-4 win.

Girardi confirmed A-Rod will start in Thursday night’s series finale, so it appears Wednesday night was just the beginning of the 41-year-old’s “curtain call.” We’re sure Fenway will save him some extra boos.
