Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera left Monday’s game with an injury to his arm.

The 33-year-old slugger suffered the injury in the fourth inning when Kansas City Royals rookie third baseman Cheslor Cuthbert ran into him at first base. Cabrera left the game three innings later and was diagnosed with a biceps strain. He’s considered day to day, but could return as soon as Tuesday.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if Miggy said he was fine (Tuesday),” Tigers manager Brad Ausmus told reporters after the game, per MLive.com. “But we’ll wait and see what he feels like.”

Jarrod Saltalamacchia took over at first for Detroit in the 3-1 loss.

Cabrera is having another fine season for the upstart Tigers. The two-time MVP is hitting .310 with 27 home runs and 77 RBIs, as Detroit sits just 2 1/2 games out of the American League wild card.

The Tigers obviously would love to have Cabrera back by Thursday at the latest, when they open a four-game series with the Boston Red Sox, one of the teams they’re chasing in the wild card race.
