The Boston College Eagles will rue the one that got away.

BC lost to Georgia Tech 17-14 on Saturday in Dublin, Ireland, in the teams’ opening game of the college football season. Georgia Tech scored 10 points in the final six minutes of the fourth quarter to consign BC to defeat in a game it could have won.

Running back Dedrick Mills scored the winning touchdown with :35 seconds remaining. Kicker Harrison Butker moved Georgia Tech to within four points of BC with 5:57 left in the fourth.

Between those scores, BC could have prevented Georgia Tech from overturning its lead, but kicker Colton Lichtenberg missed a 35-yard field goal. The miss was Lichtenberg’s second of the day. Georgia Tech blocked one in the first half.

The Eagles will play the University of Massachusetts on Saturday at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass., in a non-conference game. Meanwhile, BC’s wait for its first ACC win over 21 months continues.
