Colin Kaepernick wasted no time addressing his controversial wardrobe decision.

Kaepernick, who created a lot of buzz last week for sitting during the national anthem before a preseason game, again made headlines Thursday when The Big Lead pointed out the San Francisco 49ers quarterback wore socks that featured cops depicted as pigs during training camp.

Kaepernick explained after sitting out “The Star Spangled Banner” last week that he did so in protest of what he believes is the mistreatment of minorities in the United States. And based on an Instagram post Kaepernick dropped Thursday afternoon, he also wore the socks for a reason. It wasn’t just a fashion statement.

Kaepernick’s national anthem protest — he intends to sit again before the 49ers’ preseason game against the San Diego Chargers on Thursday night — is very polarizing, so the whole sock thing should only add fuel to the fire, especially now that we know it wasn’t one giant coincidence.
