Jared Dudley Was Interested In Joining Celtics Before Signing With Suns

Jared Dudley was open to a homecoming of sorts.

Dudley, a product of Boston College, signed a three-year, $30 million contract with the Phoenix Suns earlier this offseason. But before inking the deal, the veteran forward informed the Boston Celtics that he was interested in potentially donning green, according to the Boston Herald’s Steve Bulpett.

“Boston never contacted me, but I made it known I was interested in them,” Dudley told Bulpett.

Dudley shot 42 percent from beyond the arc in 81 games with the Washington Wizards last season, so it would have been understandable if the Celtics pursued him in free agency. The C’s drafted small forward Jaylen Brown with the third overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, though. Signing Dudley could have meant less minutes for the rookie this season.

Dudley, who was drafted 22nd overall by the Charlotte Bobcats in 2007, has been with five teams — Suns, Bobcats, Wizards, Los Angeles Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks — in his nine-year NBA career. The 31-year-old averaged 7.9 points and 3.5 rebounds in 25.9 minutes per game last season.
