Los Angeles Rams QB (And No. 1 Pick) Jared Goff Won’t Dress For Opener

The Jared Goff era in Los Angeles is off to a less than ideal start.

The Rams traded up to select the former University of California quarterback with the first overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, but the rookie signal-caller will be in street clothes for the season opener Monday night against the San Francisco 49ers.

Rams coach Jeff Fisher confirmed to the NFL Network on Tuesday that Goff is the No. 3 quarterback on the Rams’ depth chart and won’t even dress in Week 1.

Case Keenum will start against the Niners, and some guy named Sean Mannion will serve as Los Angeles’ backup. Fisher did hint, however, the Rams could “flip them” — presumably Goff and Mannion — in Week 2, but that obviously remains to be seen.

Goff certainly didn’t do anything to force Fisher’s hand during the preseason. The No. 1 pick completed less than 50 percent of his passes (22 of 49) to go along with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

The Rams acquired the No. 1 pick in April, sending the Tennessee Titans their first-round pick, two second-round picks, a third-round pick, a 2017 first-round pick and a 2017 third-round pick. Los Angeles also got the Titans’ fourth- and sixth-round picks.
