Manti Te’o Injury: Chargers Linebacker Out For Season With Torn Achilles

Season-ending injuries are becoming an unfortunate weekly tradition for the San Diego Chargers.

Chargers head coach Mike McCoy confirmed Monday that linebacker Manti Te’o will be out for the remainder of the 2016 campaign after tearing his Achilles in Sunday’s 26-22 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

This is the third significant injury blow to the Chargers this season, as wide receiver Keenan Allen tore his ACL in Week 1 and running back Danny Woodhead tore his ACL in Week 2. They, like Te’o, will be out for the rest of the season.

Te’o, a second-round pick out of Notre Dame in 2013, started 12 games for the Chargers last season, so his absence definitely will be felt in the middle of San Diego’s defense. The 25-year-old recorded 17 tackles this season before going down with the non-contact injury in the first quarter Sunday.
