The Americans have a little extra motivation at the Ryder Cup this year.

Team USA is looking for its first win since 2008, and it probably would love a victory to honor one of golf’s all-time greats, Arnold Palmer.

Palmer passed away last weekend, an incredibly sad loss for the golf world. Fans, media and players alike memorialized and remembered Palmer all week leading up to the Ryder Cup, a tournament in which Palmer had plenty of success.

Prior to the tournament’s open Friday morning, fans at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Minnesota chanted Palmer’s name on the first tee.

Palmer’s bag from the 1975 Ryder Cup also was placed on the first tee.
