It’s easy to get glued to RedZone on football Sundays, even if you’re an NFL quarterback.
New England Patriots QB Tom Brady joined Westwood One’s Jim Gray for his weekly interview Monday night, and how he spent Game 1 of his Deflategate suspension and his thoughts on what happened with the Pats against the Arizona Cardinals dominated the discussion.
Let’s just say you probably had a pretty similar Sunday to one of the greatest football players who’s ever lived.
“Well I was home in Boston, so I had a little bit of time during the day to kind of spend some time with the family and then spend a little time working out and then obviously watched a lot of football,” Brady said. “So it was fun to sit on the couch and see a lot of those games from a different perspective. It was great to see the Patriots finish off the night with a huge win in Arizona. So I was really pumped to see that.
“Well, I watched that one channel, that RedZone channel that captures everything, which is pretty amazing. But it’s a great way to kind of watch how a lot of the flows of the game are going, you see a lot of situations. … It’s fun to watch football on Sundays. Obviously I love the sport so much, so to have a chance to watch all those games under different circumstances and obviously I’d much rather be out there playing, but it still was an enjoyable Sunday nonetheless.”
As for his replacement for the first four games, Jimmy Garoppolo, Brady congratulated him and the rest of his teammates for their performance in their 23-21 road win over the Cardinals.
“Well I thought (Jimmy) was great,” Brady said. “It was a great night for him and it was also for our whole offense. I think the one thing you realize with the quarterback is everybody being in sync and on the same page and the communication with your teammates is so critical. For us to go in there and get a win like that, it was great for obviously our offensive football team, defense played great, special teams — it’s such a team sport. Jimmy did everything he was asked to do. It was a great way to start the season for our team.”
One week down, three to go, Patriots fans.
