Yoan MoncadaThe best prospect in baseball is about to make his major league debut.

The Boston Red Sox announced Wednesday they will promote infielder Yoan Moncada to the major leagues, with him officially joining the team Friday when they play the Oakland A’s. He’s been the center of an endless hype machine since he signed with the organization in March of 2015.

Moncada has since displayed terrific offensive skills: In 187 minor league games, Moncada posted a .287/.395/.480 slash line with 23 home runs, 50 doubles, 100 RBIs and 94 stolen bases.

He’s making the jump straight from the Double-A level, joining fellow top prospect Andrew Benintendi in Boston as players to do so this season. The Red Sox hope he’ll provide a September spark at the hot corner, as production at third base has been lackluster for most of the season.

But how much of an impact can he actually have? That remains to be seen. But if it’s anything like the 10 best September call-ups in MLB history, the Red Sox are in for quite a treat.
