The Falcons’ offense has been exceptional this season, but their defense has left a lot to be desired. As such, Atlanta made a move Tuesday to add some much-needed defensive depth.
Veteran linebacker A.J. Hawk agreed to a contract with the Falcons, according to a tweet from Hawk’s agent.
Injuries have plagued multiple Falcons linebackers, including Sean Weatherspoon, who’s out for the season with a ruptured Achilles.
Hawk, who was the fifth overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, played for the Cincinnati Bengals last season after spending his first nine seasons with the Green Bay Packers. The 32-year-old appeared in 16 games for the Bengals, starting 11, and recorded 24 tackles and one sack.
The Falcons, who have the NFL’s top-ranked offense, rank 30th in yards allowed per game (419.3) and 29th in points allowed per game (31).
