FOXBORO, Mass. — The city of Chicago can’t be too happy with Martellus Bennett right now.
In an “E:60” profile set to premiere Wednesday night on ESPN, the New England Patriots tight end trashes his former team, the Bears, calling them “a bunch of bitches.” Bennett also has some choice words for Chicago quarterback Jay Cutler in the feature, saying, “everyone in the (Bears’) locker room knows that (Cutler) is not the leader.”
Patriots coach Bill Belichick declined to discuss Bennett’s explosive comments when asked about them Wednesday morning, saying his focus is on New England’s upcoming matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals.
“I’m trying to get our team ready to play Cincinnati,” Belichick said. “That’s really my job, so that’s what I’m concerned about. I think I need to do a good job, the coaching staff needs to do a good job with our preparation, practice preparation, game-planning. The Bengals are an excellent team. They’re very well-coached. They’ve won as consistently as anybody in the league over the last five years. They have a great organization from top to bottom.”
Belichick continued to praise the Bengals for another 30 seconds or so before concluding with:
“Our focus is really on trying to prepare as well as we can for them. I’m not really worried about any other team or some other random comments. That’s not really on my radar.”
Bennett has been one of the Patriots’ top performers this season. He leads the team in receiving yards (314) and touchdown receptions (four) through five games and ranks second in catches (21) behind wide receiver Julian Edelman.
