The Life of Dak has been all about football for the last month and a half, and not even free concert tickets could change that.
Rookie quarterback Dak Prescott has been one of the NFL’s biggest surprises so far, leading the Dallas Cowboys to a 4-1 start while filling in for the injured Tony Romo. Prescott had a chance to briefly run away from the grind in late September, though: In a recent feature on the Mississippi State grad, Sports Illustrated’s Pete Thamel revealed that Prescott was offered tickets to Kanye West’s show in Dallas on Thursday, Sept. 22.
Kanye, of course, is a pretty popular guy, and most people would call you crazy for skipping one of his shows. But apparently Prescott preferred another source of entertainment. From SI:
“Prescott did the math aloud: Kanye will go on after 9. The show will last a few hours, which means getting home after midnight. The decision was clear. He offered the tickets to his childhood friend, Cobi Griffin, who declined.
“So Dak kicked back in a recliner, Cobi sprawled on the couch and the two spent the night flipping between a (Houston) Texans-(New England) Patriots game and Clemson-Georgia Tech. ‘I wanted to go a little bit,’ Prescott said of the concert. ‘But I just think about the perception of it all. And I love my sleep.'”
As it turns out, that Patriots-Texans game wasn’t all that exciting for those outside New England, as rookie quarterback Jacoby Brissett — who was taken 44 spots ahead of Prescott in the 2015 NFL draft — and the Patriots steamrolled Houston in a 27-0 win.
But it’s good to know Prescott, who is an early NFL Rookie of the Year candidate, occasionally can resist the perks that come with being famous.
