Fantasy Football Week 6 Waiver Wire: Best Pickups At Every Position
Week 5 of the NFL season concludes Monday night, but it’s already time for fantasy football owners to begin searching the waiver wire for help leading into Week 6.
There were plenty of standout performances Sunday that should generate plenty of waiver interest over the next few days.
Here are the best waiver-wire pickups for fantasy owners to pursue entering Week 6.
Quarterback: Marcus Mariota, Tennessee Titans
Mariota finally provided a much-needed quality performance in Week 6 to fantasy owners who’ve stuck with him through this season’s struggles. He threw for 163 yards with three passing touchdowns, while also adding 63 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Perhaps the most encouraging stat for Mariota was his 69.1 completion percentage, a season high.
Other quarterbacks to pursue: Brian Hoyer (CHI)
Running Back: Jay Ajayi, Miami Dolphins
Ajayi is averaging 3.8 yards per carry, but he has found the end zone in two of the Dolphins’ last three games. He also received a season-high 13 carries in Sunday’s loss to the Titans. Ajayi isn’t a bad pickup in deeper leagues as a flex play to replace running backs on bye weeks.
Other running backs to pursue: James White (NE), Fozzy Whittaker (CAR), Bilal Powell (NYJ), Jalen Richard (OAK)
Wide Receiver: Sammie Coates, Pittsburgh Steelers
Coates was expected to enjoy a breakout season with Steelers wideout Martavis Bryant suspended for the entire campaign. He’s been mediocre through four weeks, but he was fantastic in Week 5 with six receptions on 11 targets for 139 yards and two touchdowns. All of those numbers were season highs. Coates is an excellent pickup in all leagues as the No. 2 or 3 receiver in a high-powered passing attack with an elite quarterback.
Other wide receivers to target: Cameron Meredith (CHI), Tyrell Williams (SD), Chris Hogan (NE), Jamison Crowder (WSH)
Tight End: Hunter Henry, San Diego Chargers
Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers consistently ranks among the weekly leaders in passing yards, and he’s developed trust and chemistry with Henry during Antonio Gates’ battle with an injury. Henry, a rookie, has three straight games of 60 or more receiving yards, and he’s scored a touchdown in back-to-back games.
Other tight ends to pursue: Ladarius Green (PIT), Virgil Green (DEN)
