Johnny Hockey is staying put.
The Calgary Flames announced Monday that they signed forward Johnny Gaudreau to a six-year contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Gaudreau’s contract is worth $40.5 million (an average annual value of $6.75 million), according to TSN’s Bob McKenzie.
Gaudreau, a former standout at Boston College, was a restricted free agent. The Flames clearly made it a priority to re-sign the 23-year-old, though, just as they prioritized re-signing center Sean Monahan, who also was a restricted free agent, to a seven-year deal back in August.
Gaudreau is one of hockey’s bright young stars. He finished tied for sixth in the NHL last season with 78 points after netting 30 goals and adding 48 assists.
