The Chicago Cubs already are favored to win their first World Series championship since 1908, but those chances may have just gotten better.
Kyle Schwarber, Chicago’s power-hitting catcher/outfielder, reportedly is on his way to Cleveland and has a chance to DH as soon as Game 1 of the World Series on Tuesday against the Indians, per MLB.com. The 23-year-old tore both his ACL and LCL in April three days into the season after a collision with outfielder Dexter Fowler.
Schwarber was supposed to miss the entire season — and has to this point — but played two games in the Arizona Fall League over the weekend, doubling in one at-bat.
“He ran the bases before the game really well, slid, dove back in, went first to third, second to home,” Cubs president Theo Epstein said Monday, via MLB.com. “He looked really good. He’s running pretty well. He’s saving his hits, apparently, because he keeps hitting the balls at guys.”
The Cubs won’t announce their World Series roster officially until 10 a.m. ET on Tuesday, but here’s hoping Schwarber makes the cut so we can see more of this:
Game 1 of the World Series is scheduled for 8:08 p.m. ET on Tuesday.
