The New England Patriots opened spots on their 53-man roster and practice squad Monday.

The Patriots waived defensive tackle Anthony Johnson from their active roster and safety Vinnie Sunseri from their practice squad, according to the NFL transaction wire. The Patriots additionally worked out free-agent safety Shamiel Gary, according to a source.

Johnson recorded two tackles in 21 snaps Sunday in the Patriots’ 27-16 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. He has been off and on the Patriots’ roster and practice squad this season. He has eight tackles in four games this season.

Sunseri was an original member of the Patriots’ 2016 practice squad. He spent all summer with the Patriots in training camp. He was one of just two defensive players on the Patriots’ practice squad.

Gary was signed by the Patriots as an undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma State in 2014. He was released after training camp and has since spent time with the Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins and Minnesota Vikings. Gary has 11 career tackles in six NFL games, all with the Dolphins.
