The New England Patriots made four transactions the day before their Week 6 matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Patriots placed linebacker Jonathan Freeny (shoulder) and tight end Greg Scruggs (knee) on injured reserve Saturday and signed defensive end Geneo Grissom and defensive tackle Anthony Johnson off the practice squad.

Grissom adds additional special-teams ability with Freeny off the roster, and Johnson will provide interior pass-rushing depth behind Trey Flowers and Jabaal Sheard.

The Patriots now have four players on injured reserve: Freeny, Scruggs, quarterback Jacoby Brissett and tight end Michael Williams.

Rookie Elandon Roberts, who led the Patriots in tackles in Week 5, moves up the defensive depth chart with Freeny off the 53-man roster. Scruggs recently signed with New England and injured his knee in practice before appearing in a game.

The Patriots have eight players left on their practice squad after today’s moves.
