FOXBORO, Mass. — The New England Patriots were down to just two healthy guards Wednesday with starter Shaq Mason absent from practice.

Mason’s absence left Joe Thuney, David Andrews and Ted Karras as the Patriots’ only healthy interior offensive linemen on their 53-man roster. The Patriots released Jonathan Cooper on Saturday to make room for defensive tackle Woodrow Hamilton.

The Patriots also have offensive tackles Nate Solder, Marcus Cannon, Cameron Fleming and LaAdrian Waddle on their active roster. They have guards Chase Farris, Chris Barker and Ian Silberman on their practice squad.

Running back Brandon Bolden (knee) and linebacker Jonathan Freeny also were absent from Wednesday’s practice.

Linebacker Shea McClellin (concussion) returned to the practice field Wednesday but left for a separate field when drills began.

Practice squad fullback Glenn Gronkowski also was absent. It appears he’s been replaced on the practice squad by wide receiver Shaq Evans.
