Red Sox Vs. Indians Live: Boston Falls Behind 0-2 in ALDS After Game 2 Loss

Final, Indians 6-0: Red Sox fans might not have thought it was possible, but Game 2 of Boston’s ALDS against the Indians on Friday was worse than Game 1.

Cleveland reliever Bryan Shaw came in to finish the job in the ninth and retired Ortiz, Ramirez and Bogaerts in order to solidify the Indians’ 6-0 win. After Rick Porcello turned in a rough outing in a 5-4 loss Thursday, Price pulled his own postseason disappearing act, giving up four runs in the second inning, including a three-run bomb.

But Price’s outing didn’t factor into the game much anyway, as the Red Sox’s offense was blanked in yet another lackluster showing against the Indians’ pitching staff.

End 8th, Indians 6-0: Kelly struck out Guyer to start the bottom of the eighth and got Chisenhall to ground out before Farrell turned to Craig Kimbrel. Kimbrel hadn’t pitched in five days, so the plan was to get him in no matter what, but he struck out Perez anyway.

Mid 8th, Indians 6-0: The Red Sox had their best chance to score in the eighth when Leon walked and Bradley was hit by a pitch to end Kluber’s night, but they did nothing with it. Reliever Dan Otero struck out Pedroia, Holt lined out and Betts grounded into a forceout to end the inning.

End 7th, Indians 6-0: Joe Kelly got the call in the seventh and pitched Boston’s most efficient inning since the first. Kelly got Napoli to pop out, Santana to ground out and Jose Ramirez to fly out for a 1-2-3 frame.

Mid 7th, Indians 6-0: Kluber pitched another 1-2-3 inning in the seventh. Hanley Ramirez grounded out to third, Bogaerts struck out and Benintendi hit a shallow popup that was caught by Guyer.

End 6th, Indians 6-0: Barnes was yanked after giving up a leadoff single to Guyer, so Robbie Ross Jr. came in to strike out Chisenhall. Red Sox manager John Farrell then turned to Brad Ziegler against the right-handed Perez and Davis, but Perez reached on a rare fielding error by Pedroia, while Guyer made his way to third. That came back to bite the Red Sox, as Guyer ended up scoring on a sacrifice fly by Davis.

Ziegler followed that with a four-pitch walk to Kipnis but struck out Lindor to end the threat.

Mid 6th, Indians 5-0: Betts got his first hit of the series, a two-out single, but Ortiz lined out to right to end the frame.

End 5th, Indians 5-0: Barnes came back out in the fifth and gave up a two-out single to Jose Ramirez, who tried to steal second with Guyer at the plate. Ramirez initially was ruled safe, but the call was overturned for out No. 3.

Mid 5th, Indians 5-0: Bogaerts hit a leadoff single, but it went for naught as Kluber retired Benintendi, Leon and Bradley.

End 4th, Indians 5-0: Price gave up a leadoff single to Guyer on a ball that would have been tough for Bogaerts to field cleanly (he didn’t) and walked Perez with one out, and that was the end of his day. Matt Barnes came in and got Davis to ground into a fielder’s choice, but he followed that by giving up an RBI single to Kipnis. Barnes ended the inning with a strikeout to Lindor.

Price allowed five earned runs on six hits with two walks, three strikeouts and a home run over just 3 1/3 innings.

Mid 4th, Indians 4-0: Kluber walked Pedroia and Betts with a strikeout to Holt in between, but the Red Sox couldn’t plate any runners after Ortiz popped out and Hanley Ramirez watched strike three fly by him.

End 3rd, Indians 4-0: Price had a better third inning, allowing a one-out single to first baseman Mike Napoli before getting Santana and Jose Ramirez to strike out swinging.

Mid 3rd, Indians 4-0: The Red Sox went down in order once again in the third inning after Kluber got Andrew Benintendi to ground out and struck out Sandy Leon and Jackie Bradley Jr.

End 2nd, Indians 4-0: Designated hitter Carlos Santana singled with one out, and third baseman Jose Ramirez followed with another single after Holt failed to cleanly field a tough grounder. A third consecutive single, another softly hit ball that landed just over Bogaerts’ head, by left fielder Brandon Guyer brought in Cleveland’s first run.

Price unraveled from there, giving up a three-run homer to right fielder Lonnie Chisenhall, who hadn’t homered off a lefty at all in 2016, and walking catcher Roberto Perez. Perez didn’t pose a threat, though, as Price struck out Davis and got Kipnis to ground out.

Mid 2nd, 0-0: Kluber pitched a 1-2-3 second inning by inducing a popout to David Ortiz, striking out Hanley Ramirez and inducing a groundout to Xander Bogaerts.

End 1st, 0-0: Price had a phenomenal first inning, taking Rajai Davis, Jason Kipnis and Francisco Lindor down on just eight pitches. Davis and Kipnis popped out, while Lindor grounded out to Holt.

Mid 1st, 0-0: Third baseman Brock Holt continued his hot streak, hitting a one-out single off Kluber after Dustin Pedroia struck out. However, Mookie Betts followed by grounding into a double play to end the half-inning.

3:08 p.m.: The Boston Red Sox are back in action and looking to recover from a 5-4 loss to the Cleveland Indians in Game 1 of their American League Division Series.

They’ll have the opportunity to steal a game at Progressive Field on Friday when left-hander David Price takes the mound against Indians ace Corey Kluber. The series opener didn’t go so hot for Boston’s pitching, as Rick Porcello gave up three solo home runs in the third inning, tying his regular-season high. Price has had his own struggles in the postseason, too, but he did strike out 10 and give up just two runs in his Opening Day start in Cleveland.

Plus, the Red Sox hit three solo shots of their own Thursday, so they won’t go down so easily, even if their pitching does falter.
