Russell Martin Needed Stitches After High-Five Celebration, Still Will Play In ALDS Game 1

Russell Martin hurt himself during the Toronto Blue Jays’ celebration after they beat the Baltimore Orioles in the American League Wild Card Game with a walkoff home run Tuesday night.

Blue Jays fans don’t need to worry, though. Martin’s injury — if you can even call it that — won’t prevent the veteran catcher from playing in Thursday night’s Game 1 of the American League Division Series against the Texas Rangers.

Martin is an important player for the Blue Jays, and his playoff experience (49 career games in nine seasons) is a huge help, too.

But in the future, maybe he should tone down the celebrations just a bit. You can’t take any chances in October.
