Tony Romo plans to be back on the field for the Dallas Cowboys this season, and that might come in about a month’s time.

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport provided an update on the quarterback’s status Sunday morning.

Romo injured his back during the preseason and was expected to miss about eight weeks of the regular season.

The Cowboys play the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, then will face the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 5 and the Green Bay Packers in Week 6 before going on a Week 7 bye. Their first game after the bye is against the NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles.

Rookie quarterback Dak Prescott has started in Romo’s place through the first three games and performed very well, completing 66.7 percent of his passes for 767 yards and one touchdown with zero interceptions. Prescott also is among the best third-down QBs in the NFL.
