Why Dak Prescott Reportedly Will Continue To Start Over Tony Romo … For Now

Dallas Cowboys fans are getting used to life with rookie quarterback Dak Prescott under center, and it looks like he isn’t going anywhere — at least not for a few weeks.

According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Prescott will remain the Cowboys’ starter for their Week 8 post-bye matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, and potentially beyond, because Tony Romo still hasn’t fully recovered from a back injury.

Romo has been out since the preseason after suffering a compression fracture in his spine, but Prescott has led the Cowboys to 5-1 record and a first-place standing in the competitive NFC East. The Mississippi State product’s numbers look great for any quarterback, let alone a rookie. Prescott has completed 68.7 percent of his passes through Week 6, throwing for seven touchdowns and just one interception while rushing for 67 yards and three more TDs.

Jerry Jones originally insisted Romo would take back the starting role upon his return, but the Cowboys owner appears to be backing off that stance, and a delay in Romo’s recovery could make Dallas’ QB situation even more intriguing.
