World Series Rosters: Cubs’ Kyle Schwarber, Indians’ Danny Salazar Added

The Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians each added a potentially significant piece for the 2016 World Series.

The Cubs and Indians announced their 25-man active rosters Tuesday morning, and Chicago outfielder/catcher Kyle Schwarber and Cleveland pitcher Danny Salazar were among those who made the cut.

Schwarber appeared in just two games this season before tearing two ligaments in his left knee. The 23-year-old was expected to miss the remainder of the 2016 campaign due to the injury, but he was cleared to resume playing last week and saw game action in the Arizona Fall League. He’s now expected to serve as Chicago’s designated hitter when the teams begin their best-of-seven series Tuesday night at Progressive Field in Cleveland.

Salazar hasn’t pitched since Sept. 9 because of a forearm issue. The Indians deemed the 26-year-old right-hander healthy enough to return, though. It’s unclear at this point whether Salazar will be used as a starter or a reliever in the series.

Schwarber replaces pitcher Rob Zastryzny and Salazar replaces pitcher Cody Anderson. Neither Zastryzny nor Anderson appeared in a postseason game this year before being bumped.
