49ers Coach Chip Kelly Rules Out Oregon Return After Mark Helfrich Firing

Chip Kelly led some of the best Oregon football teams ever, but he told the media Wednesday that he has no interest in returning to the school after it fired head coach Mark Helfrich earlier this week.

Kelly left Oregon after the 2012 season, during which the Ducks went 12-1 and won the Fiesta Bowl. After being fired by the Philadelphia Eagles after nearly three seasons in charge, he joined the San Francisco 49ers as their head coach for the 2016 campaign. The 49ers are 1-10 so far.

Oregon, meanwhile, went 4-8 this season under Helfrich, and that was enough for the school to get rid of him despite the fact he won 11, 13 and nine games in the previous three seasons.

Kelly had a ton of success at Oregon; much more than he’s enjoyed in the NFL. It wouldn’t be a bad move for him to go back to college, but for now, it seems he’s not interested.
