So much for those power-play woes. Well, at least for one night.
The Boston Bruins, who entered Monday’s game against the Buffalo Sabres with only three power-play goals all season, scored three times on the man-advantage in a convincing 4-0 win at TD Garden.
Here’s how it all went down.
MIGHTY POWER PLAY
The Bruins’ power play has some life after all.
Boston entered Monday’s game with the second-worst power-play percentage in the NHL, but the B’s made up for it by scoring not once, but twice on the man-advantage in the second period against the Sabres.
The first came courtesy of Brad Machand, and as you can see in the video below, there definitely was some luck involved.
But, hey, when you’ve struggled like the Bruins have on the power play, you’ll take what you can get.
The second goal came on a 5-on-3 advantage after Jake McCabe joined Zemgus Girgensons in the box due to tripping and unsportmanlike conduct penalties.
And David Krejci took advantage with his first goal of the season.
The Bruins weren’t done yet in the second, though. Riley Nash put Boston up 3-0 with a shot that ended up deflecting twice and into the back of the net. It originally was believed that Matt Beleskey kicked in the puck, but Nash was awarded the goal.
FINISH WITH A BANG
The Bruins weren’t done scoring power-play goals. David Pastrnak put the B’s up 4-0 with Boston’s third goal on the man-advantage 9:45 into the third period.
BACK ON TRACK
Tuukka Rask was bound to lose eventually. Unfortunately for the Bruins, that came Saturday night against the New York Rangers. But, on Monday, he looked a lot more like the Rask that had been stopping almost every puck that came his way through the early part of the season. He stopped 32 of the 32 shots he faced against Buffalo.
Rask also made a bit of history.
And so did Bruins coach Claude Julien with his 400th win with the B’s.
