Celtics Wrap: Strong Fourth Quarter Propels Pistons To Win In Boston

The Boston Celtics had a chance to win Wednesday night’s game against the Detroit Pistons at TD Garden, but the visitors hit several clutch fourth-quarter shots to even the season series at a win apiece.

Isaiah Thomas scored 27 points to lead the Celtics, but it wasn’t enough in a 121-114 loss. He’s reached the 20-point mark in 17 of 18 games for Boston this season.

BALANCED FIRST HALF
The Pistons took a 59-53 lead into halftime. Four of their five starters scored nine or more points through two quarters, and three of them reached double-digits. Tobias Harris and Andre Drummond led the way with 11 points apiece. Jon Leuer also chipped in eight points off the bench as the Pistons shot 52.2 percent from the field as a team in the first half.

SPARK OFF THE BENCH
Kelly Olynyk had his best game of the season with 19 points (tying a season high) on 7 of 9 shooting, including a 3 for 4 mark from 3-point land. He was the only bright spot off the bench for the Celtics. Marcus Smart added 10 points, but he shot 4 for 14 from the field.

PISTONS’ LATE RUN
The Celtics briefly took a lead in the fourth quarter with an 11-0 run, but the Pistons grabbed the lead back with a 9-0 run of their own to take a 103-95 edge with 5:08 remaining. Detroit, quite frankly, played one of its best games of the season. They shot 55 percent from the floor and 45 percent from beyond the arc. Four of their five starters scored 20 or more points.
