If we asked most fans to describe Brock Lesnar over the past several years, most might only give you one word: invincible.
“The Beast Incarnate” is a terrifying human specimen who looks and acts as if he was built as a fighting machine. And if there were any doubts about his “real” abilities away from a WWE ring, a dominant return to the octagon at UFC 200 over the summer reminded us all just how scary this man really is.
With that in mind, we got excited for Lesnar’s Survivor Series match Sunday, marking the return of Goldberg — a pro wrestling legend, built up as one of the industry’s most dominant superstars during his height in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
However, Goldberg is now 49 and hasn’t wrestled a match in over 12 years. Sure, the last time he faced Lesnar — at WrestleMania 20 in 2004 — he destroyed him. But that was a long time ago. There was no way he could repeat the performance.
Until he did.
Lesnar immediately attacked Goldberg from the bell, lifting him by the legs and slamming him into the turnbuckle in what appeared to be the beginning of the end for Goldberg — a showing of dominance from Lesnar like every other fight he’s in, which comes shortly before he destroys you.
Then Goldberg shoved Lesnar down with ease — an astonishing feat given the relative strength needed to do so. Lesnar looked completely stunned in the immediate aftermath — when’s the last time someone knocked him over so handily? — before chuckling as he got to his feet.
But by then, it was too late. Goldberg took over, as you can see in the video below.
Goldberg quickly finished Lesnar after the second spear, hitting him with his trademark jackhammer finishing move before a pin that ended the match approximately 90 seconds after it started, leaving the wrestling world in shock and awe trying to figure out what it had just seen.
It’s unclear what Goldberg or Lesnar’s futures hold, though the rumor mill is already heating up. But one thing is for certain: This is a match we’ll remember for a long, long time.
